V-belt drives
The name is derived from the wedge-shaped cross-section of the belt. The power is transmitted by the frictional force developed between the belt and the pulley. Wedge V-belt drives are available with single and multiple grooves. In the case of wedge V-belt drives with multiple grooves they are sometimes connected to each other using a cover plate on the rear, so-called “power-belt”. V-belts can further be categorized based on their width and height ratio and on their belt profile: normal and narrow.
